The Granite Education Association announces elections and encourages all interested members to run for office. As a member of GEA, you have an opportunity to be actively involved and be a voice for teachers and our Association. You may run for only one (1) Board position. Board members and officers elected by the general membership qualify as voting delegates at the NEA Representative Assembly (RA)* and as a delegate to the UEA House of Delegates. If you are interested in being involved, but not on the Board of Directors, you can run for the NEA Representative Assembly Delegate position. Members elected by the general membership to attend the RA qualify as voting delegates to the RA, the governing body of NEA. Elected delegates travel with members of the GEA Board of Directors to the RA during the summer to make policy for the NEA.* *GEA Board members’ travel to the RA is funded in the middle year of their term of office. Members elected as delegates to the NEA RA shall be selected in order of the number of votes received. All interested candidates should submit the following items to [email protected] by 5:00 pm on February 21, 2025:

GEA Positions Available President (2-year term) Vice President (2-year term) Secondary (3-year term) Specialist (3-year term) At-Large 2 (3-year term) NEA Representative Assembly Delegate (Summer 2025) As part of the negotiation process, it is crucial to ensure that agreed-upon outcomes are upheld, even years after the initial agreement. Recently, we addressed an issue where GSD attempted to alter a 2019 agreement by scheduling more than half a day of PD on Friday, November 1. This was a SNAD day, not designated as an end-of-term day, and per our negotiated agreement, should have included half a day of PD and half a day of teacher-directed planning time. Due to GSD’s changes, some schools had teachers scheduled for up to a full day of professional development. We believed it was essential to protect teachers' right to the negotiated planning time and, after persistent advocacy with GSD, successfully achieved a reversal of their decision. However, we remain concerned that if GSD is willing to disregard this agreement, other commitments could also be at risk. To address any future issues, we encourage members to promptly report contract violations and reach out whenever support is needed. Your reports are vital in helping us uphold your rights.
